About Red Door:
Red Door is a non-for-profit organization. The mission of the Red Door Shelter is to end homelessness for each family that comes through our doors by providing a safe, temporary refuge and critical services to support them in healing, rebuilding their lives and integrating back into a community. Position Type: Casual/On-call
Responsibilities:
- Assists with food production and presentation of daily menu items and special events.
- Receives and supervises the food donations and makes arrangements for the storage of food products and other materials necessary to the food service operations.
- Responsible for all kitchen sanitation and safety regulations are observed at all times.
- Maintains statistical data on meals served.
- Monitors portion control, waste and maintains appropriate levels of needed inventory.
- Serves food to residents as required.
- Maintains confidentiality of client and agency information.
- Participates in staff trainings and programs as required.
- Assumes other such responsibilities as may be deemed necessary from time to time.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Good working knowledge of all commercial grade kitchen equipment.
- The ability to be able to function independently and maintain self-sufficiency with minimal supervision.
- Good interpersonal communication skills, flexibility and willingness to shift priorities as needed.
- Knowledge of the service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics and the appropriate techniques and practices for the client population.
- All staff, volunteers, and students require criminal reference checks. This includes vulnerable sector screening, which must be updated every three years.
- Valid Food Handler’s Certificate, UMAB, WHMIS, First Aid/CPR, VAW specific training.
- Ability to interact effectively as a team member and independently with Shelter staff and with a diverse client base.
Salary: $23.43 per hour + plus 4% vacation pay as per the collective agreement and access to the health care spending account (HCSA) and employee assistance program at no cost to you!
Successful candidates will be required to clear vulnerable sector screening.
